Defending your Freelance Boundaries and Schedule

In a recent post for PsPrint’s blog, I address one of the downsides to freelancing and working from home: favor-seekers.

When family, friends and neighbors find out that you are “home” – even if you are working on nuclear fusion in a basement laboratory – they’ll still ask for favors. Can you walk my dog, sign for a package, etc.

In the post, I share these four tips with freelancers to help manage these requests and defend their work schedules from favor-seekers:

1. Be communicative about what you do

2. If it’s not a work call or e-mail don’t answer it right away

3. Say no affirmatively and politely

4. Ask to be paid or barter for another favor
